FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Commercialization Program at The University of Texas at Austin Selects the Book Product Idea to Product Success for Entrepreneur Course

Austin, Texas - September 1, 2005 - The Master of Science in Science and Technology Commercialization (MSSTC) degree program of The IC2 Institute of The University of Texas at Austin has selected the book Product Idea to Product Success for the course STC 395 The Art and Science of Market-Driven Entrepreneurship. STC 395 is about recognizing business opportunities, assessing new venture ideas, building business models, validating the market, analyzing the competition, gauging the economic feasibility, developing product launch strategies and tactics, and writing business plans to obtain resources.

The dynamic book Product Idea to Product Success, A Complete Step-by-Step Guide to Making Money from Your Idea, (Broadword Publishing) will guide students throughout the semester. Written by Matthew Yubas (known as the Product Coach) Product Idea to Product Success is a comprehensive book that works like an intelligent roadmap for this interactive course.

University of Texas IC2 Institute Instructor Barbara Fossum said, "Product Idea to Product Success provides a good review of important material covered in the first semester, for example, marketing research, economic feasibility of an idea etc. The book also gives the students a good look at issues that are not covered in full until the third and final semester of the program, for example, intellectual property protection, and fills gaps in our knowledge base with subjects such as development of prototypes and other manufacturing issues. Overall the book provides detailed, pragmatic guidance with details of new venture development work that often is overlooked by students who are developing a business plan."

The focus of this 12-month master's degree program is on the rapid transfer of research, knowledge, and technology from ideas to the marketplace - the entrepreneurial wealth creation process. MSSTC students are organized into teams to assess the commercial potential of technologies, develop strategies to commercialize technologies, and to build business models and plans to launch new ventures. Through the MSSTC program, students gain the knowledge and skills to cope with the formidable economic, social, financial, and political changes associated with creating economic value from knowledge.

"The book, Product Idea to Product Success, which has helped thousands of inventors and entrepreneurs, also works well in the academic environment," said Yubas. "MSSTC students will learn the necessary technical, financial, legal, marketing, and sales steps to bring a product to market." Using Product Idea to Product Success within the course, students will gain the essential tools to realize their entrepreneurial skills and launch successful products.
